Produced by Jasmin Taylor and Motion/Pictures Dance Project

She Belongs to the City is an interdisciplinary dance film currently in development by Jasmin Taylor and Motion/Pictures Dance Project. Rooted in Chicago and scored by Jasmin’s debut album, Applied and Aligned, the work explores themes of memory, identity, and self-trust through a fusion of dance, sound, and cinematic storytelling—tracing an internal journey shaped by personal history and the environments that hold it.

Join us on April 25 for an Open Studio at the Chicago Cultural Center, offering a first look at material in its early stages. This sharing will feature live performance and film excerpts, inviting audiences into the process as we continue to develop the language of the work.

She Belongs to the City is being developed as part of the 2026 Chicago Cultural Center Dance Studio Residency, which includes a $25,000 grant and dedicated rehearsal space to support the creation of new work.
